South Carolina has a 1.8 Billion dollar budget surplus for 2020.
Let’s all just take a minute to think about what we could do with
1.8 Billion dollars….
I may be an optimist, but I am certain that we can do a lot with that amount of money. We have been conditioned to think that any programs that benefit the greater good always result in higher taxes. That is just a talking point that lawmakers use to convince us to vote against our own best interests.
I am a strong believer in LEAN principles and reducing waste. In other words, we don’t need to raise taxes to get more money. We need to reduce wasteful spending and prioritize spending on things that matter.
For example, I don’t think that tennis courts in Sumter should get $2 million dollars from the State. Especially since we have patients waiting in our emergency departments for days because there aren’t enough inpatient psychiatric beds.
